Dorothy began clowning in the early 1990s. In 1995, she was one
of the four founding members of the Jolly Joeys Clown Alley.
She served in the capacity of several board positions over
the years that she was active in the alley. She was a
regular participant in alley gigs and attended TCA
conventions where she competed in make-up, skits,
and parade-ability, winning numerous awards over
the years. Dorothy was instrumental in making it
possible for the alley to meet at University United
Methodist church where we have held our meetings
for 27 years. Dorothy especially loved gospel clowning
and using her skills as a ministry. She said she chose
her clown name “because she wanted to bring sunshine
into others’ lives and wanted the Son’s love to shine through
her". Dorothy was trained in performing clown communion and
then trained others in the alley to do it. This was one of the most
meaningful gigs for those who participated. She had to give up actively clowning in recent years due to health issues, at which time she was made a lifetime member of the alley. We miss her sweet spirit and hearing her say, “I hope your life is full of love and laughter!”
